Cannabis and MMA

MMA or Mixed Martial Arts is a very common combat sport in the US. The core of MMA is boxing or wrestling. This sport requires striking and grappling techniques at their best. Obviously, sports like these need athletes who are physically very strong and powerful. The strength and stamina of the player counts a lot as this game purely requires physical contact. There is no secret behind the use of drugs specially cannabis by these powerful athletes for enjoyment or medical purposes. Cannabis is the most common recreational drug used by fighters.

There are some famous former pro athletes of MMA who were associated with the use of cannabis and were penalized for their cannabis intake while they were actively fighting matches. Later on after their retirement, these players are known for opening their own companies where they sell cannabis for recovery and wellness. It is believed by the fighters that intake of cannabis has a positive effect on health and quick recovery from the injuries. Due to such high demand in favour of cannabis legalization for the players unlike other sports where cannabis is banned,

MMA is the first to allow use of cannabis for the fighters. Well-known players who have had a history of cannabis in their career include Matt Riddle, who started his fighting career with a great kick. He won the first two matches before he was tested positive for cannabis. He then addressed media by telling that his use of cannabis was due to medical purposes such as relief from pain and quick recovery from injury. Matt Riddle is known as a professional wrestler nowadays. Another well-known and one of the best fighters, Joe Jones was also open about his cannabis use in daily life. He also mentioned clearly that while he quits other substances he will still smoke cannabis. A dominant female MMA fighter, Ronda Rousey supported people who had been suspended for cannabis use in the past.

Due to the legalization of a certain amount of cannabis use by the players, there are also no testing performed on off days. Urine test is only performed 6 hours before a match and the player is suppose to have a clear result hence ingestion of cannabis should be stopped for approximately a total of 12 hours before any match in order to have clear results.
